Astral Claws Tyrant’s Legion Livery
It was a time before Unbound lists and Allies but the thought of having a mixed Guard and Space Marine list was VERY Tempting…….in the Badab War Book (part of the Imperial Armour Series of books from Forge World) there is a list that allows just that……..and so the Tyrant’s Legion project began.
I no longer own this army, it is know in the safe hands of an American Serviceman but I really enjoyed the project and was a tough one to part with but it allowed me to start work on my Horus Heresy Era Imperial Fists. Take a look through the pictures and drop me a comment as to what is your favourite part of the build!

Pan Oceannia – Neoterra Bolt – Cosplay Edition

As I have said in my blog post about my German 78th Sturm Division Heer force I am slowly building it up to be a fully mechanised force for Tank Wars, the Bolt Action Supplement from Warlord Games. This is a tow for my artillery piece and it is a Raupenschlepper Ost or RSO which litterally means Caterpillar Tractor East. This is a JFTM PRODUCTIONS Model from the DIE WAFFENKAMMER range.

As some of you may know I started off in the Wargaming World some 26 years ago when I picked up my first White Dwarf and the Marauder Miniatures Goblin King Chariot kit. With a love and passion for Games Workshop kits and systems I never felt the need to look elsewhere for my hobby fix, I knew other companies existed but never really paid them any attention………..that is until my crusade began a few years ago!! As I opened my eyes to the Wonderful World of Wargaming out there other, companies & game systems sprung in to my field of vision and it was a little daunting…..how do you choose? That is what my World of Wargaming Crusade is all about… highlighting the works of the alternative wargames companies out there to try to give you enough insight to decide if they are for you! Sometimes along the way I have been so blown away by a company or game that I fully endorse them and blow the horn for Wargamers to rally to their side…….this is one of those times!
Broken Spirit Wargames are a brand new company of dedicated Wargamers that create rule sets for existing miniature lines that currently do not have any. They are getting ready to launch their first game on Kickstarter in 2015 called IMMORTAL which uses the awesome Arthurian and Lucifer’s Wars miniatures from the guys over at Westwind Productions and the Dark Ages miniatures from Footsore Miniatures!
“Balance is the key, no overpowered units and the little guy should be able to pull the win from the jaws of defeat.” – I don’t know about you guys out there but this is such a refreshing change in a world of wargames with UBER Death Star units, etc. This is one of the Main Reasons why I have chosen to shine a Spotlight on this company!!
This is the first publication for Broken Spirit Wargames, the game is set in 400ad in Dark Age Britain where six factions (Romano Brits, Saxon, Irish, Welsh,Picts and the Tribes of the Pennines) are all engaged in a bloody struggle to become the dominant faction. As the slaughter turns into a stalemate with none of the factions getting the upper hand, an ancient book is discovered. This book teaches the humans to summon the old gods back into existence, the Immortals.
The Immortals appear as gods of good and evil and turn brother against brother, father against son and church against king. Using the human soul’s to feed their war in the spiritual realm, the humans are used as pawns to further the Immortals plans.
The game is based around Westwind Productions fantastic Lucifer’s War range of miniatures and their Arthurian range, Footsore Miniatures have also let them use their incredible Dark Ages range. The game is a 28mm semi-skirmish tabletop wargame for which players will need between 15 to 30 miniatures a side, a 4×4 table, and around an hour and a half to play a battle.
The game is due for release in early 2015 as a full colour hardback book packed full of art, fluff and photographs of amazingly painted miniatures painted by the superbly talented Phil Campbell.
SCORPIUS GLC OUT FOR NOW!!!
Ok guys and gals I have had a blog for a while but it was hosted on another site which has since gone, losing all my blog posts in the process. I have however found my old photos from some of the Projects of the Past and so I plan to do a series of posts showcasing these on here……….. and so on with the show…………

Secrets of the Third Reich by Westwind Productions is a Weird World War 2 game set in 1949, the war is ongoing, the occult has been unleashed upon the world along with Mechas and Super Soldiers!!
In 2012 I entered my second Secrets of the Third Reich Grand Tournament and as such did a brand new army for the event! Having done British the previous year I decided on the Russians, and so I went on to buy, build and paint my way through a 55RP army list! Shown below is the result of a months work!

Hammer, Sickle and the Command Squad

Infantry Squad 1

Infantry Squad 2

Siberian Brute Squad

Anti Tank Gun

NAYK Spider Mecha

55RP Soviet Survivor Platoon
I hope that you like my first in a series of Projects of the Past posts, drop me a comment and let me know your thoughts…they are always welcome!
SCORPIUS GLC OUT FOR NOW!
Well guys and gals a month has passed and I haven’t played a Wargame……….I am feeling serious withdrawl symptoms!!! I have however begun painting again and as those close to me know it is the painting side of the hobby that I enjoy the most and as such I am one happy Hobbyist! So without further ado I will begin this months blog post coming to you direct from Scorpius GLC’s “World of Wargming” Studio!
Warzone Resurrection has been on my viewfinder since it originally went to Kickstarter, at that time I couldn’t invest but after an AWESOME Demo Day buy Ant and the guys from Leicester Phat Cats the other month I knew this game was for me!!! I set about deciding on factions and found it really difficult to choose just one as I really liked the Capitol, Dark Legion and Bauhaus. I finally decided on Capitol for myself and Dark Legion for my son (as he loved the Demo he had), so I saved up my pennies and bought the Rulebook, the Capitol Starter Set and the Dark Legion Starter Set……..but oh how I wish I could have got the Bauhaus as well……..well luckily for me I was given a commission to paint up a Bauhaus Army for Sunjeev from Portal Wargaming Centre!!
The brief from Suni was that he wanted the force to be bright and I had just the plan for this force…White and red armour with dark blue/grey uniform, to go with this I also went with destroyed Moon Base themed bases. Here are the models that I have painted as part of the commission, drop me a comment and let me know what you think!!
Thanks for taking your time to read this blog post and looking at my painting, I hope you like what you see as I really enjoyed this project! As I said above this commission allowed me to show the love that I had for the faction without having to buy a third faction!
SCORPIUS GLC OUT FOR NOW!!
3 months since my last post, terrible form, but ill health has taken me out of action for most of it and the hobby/blogging was not high on my list of priorities! I am sorry to my followers for this but I have the first of a couple of updates from my World of Wargaming….some projects that I worked on before my illness struck!
First up is my first steps into Bolt Action – The 28mm WWII Game. I decided to do a Bolt Action version of my Flames of War force…….
At the beginning of 1943 the 78. Sturm Infantry Division was reorganised as the 78th Sturm Division (a new divisional symbol, an armoured fist, being adopted, derived from the artificial hand of Götz von Berlichingen) with additional adjustments to its strength and organisation over the next several months. Each of its three infantry regiments was redesignated as a Sturm-Regiment. The designation Sturm (assault) reflected the division’s increased strength, which eventually included subordinate Sturmgeschutz (assault gun) Heavy Mortar and Nebelwerfer (rocket launcher) battalions and a tank destroyer unit equipped with Marder IIs, as well as extra regimental artillery support. With its new organisation, the division took part in Operation Citadel as part of the XXIII Corps of the Ninth Army, being involved in the fighting at Ponyri. During the following Soviet Counteroffensive the division was first transferred from the Ninth Army to the Second Panzer Army in July, then again to the Fourth Army in September where the division was forced back to the Panther-Wotan line East of Orsha.
During the June – July 1944 Soviet offensive against Army Group Centre, Operation Bagration, the division was assigned to defend the main Moscow – Minsk road and the town of Orsha. During the fighting the division was destroyed, having failed to break out of an encirclement east of Minsk on the night of 5/6 July. Surviving elements were taken over by the 565th Volksgrenadier Division.
My force is set at the beginning of Operation Bagration, currently the force stands at 1000pts but I intend to add to this with an heavy Artillery Piece and RSO Tow, increase the Heer Grenadier Squad Sizes and mount them in Opel Blitz Trucks, give my Leutnant and his assistant a Kubelwagen, add a Marder II, Tiger I and some Panzers as I gear up for Tank War. This is how it looks at this moment:
I hope you like my first Bolt Action force!! Please let me know your thoughts!
SCORPIUS GLC OUT FOR NOW!!
So after lovingly assembling my Norse Faction, which can be read about in my previous blog post, I finally got around to painting through my first Darklands host which I will be showing off in this very post. I also had the pleasure of painting another Darklands host up for Portal Wargaming’s very own TheDreamer……..more on this can be read about in my upcoming guest post on the Dispatches From The Portal in the near future! I really enjoyed painting these models, they are such AMAZING sculpts! Portal Wargaming Centre has them set up as a demo force on the table seen in the following pictures:
I took inspiration for the colour of my Trolls from the Darklands Cover artwork:
This is my Tale of 6 Darklands Gamers Force Complete for the 500 Gold Challange but I have received in the post some additions from the previous Kickstarter project, these will give me options as I grow my force up to 1000 Gold and above:
Keep checking back for more on my Darklands Norse Project, SCORPIUS GLC OUT FOR NOW!
As many of you may know I love to play lots of Wargames and have played many genres but my favourites are Fantasy Settings and Alternate History. This year seems to have a theme in the games that I am buying, building, painting and playing with and that theme is Alternate History.
This year has seen me return to a game that I had lost the love for towards the end of its last edition (Malifaux), Received my Wild West Exodus Kickstarter stuff (which I intend to be collecting a new force for in the near future) and of course the reason that I am writing this……

So Darklands???? I hear you cry…..this is probably the best game you’ve never heard of!!!! A bold Statement I know but I believe this, and as such I will say it again………PROBABLY THE BEST GAME YOU’VE NEVER HEARD OF!!!
So what is it and why am I so in love with it????
Darklands is a 30mm Dark Ages Fantasy Game, an Alternate History game if you like where the forces of the Dark Ages march forth unto battle accompanied by the creatures of myth and legends….everything from beastmen to dragons!!! The miniatures are huge so I am now using the term Bigatures! Speaking of the Bigatures, these are things of absolute beauty and cast in resin with the highest quality control…I am not just saying this, these models have been sculpted by some of the worlds best freelance sculptors!!!
So the Northmen Cometh!!!
From the bleak lands of the painted to the soft coasts of the south, from the icy shores of Thule to the windswept beaches of Frankia, the Norsemenn are reviled in the darklands as murderers of women and children, pillagers and slavers without mercy, wild and savage killers that destroy almost everything they touch and take the rest for themselves. The fury of the northmen sweeps all before them, and yet the Norse, the Skilfing kingdom in particular, are not so barbaric – nor so different from other humans – as many would choose to believe. To live upon the cold edges of the world where the soil is poor, with the incalculable threat of gods and jötnar in the mountains around them, who is to say other men would not take to the seas to plunder and raid to feed their children? To the Norse, the weak are nothing, for their realm has taught them that only the strong and the ruthless survive, and their victims that see clearly understand that one day the strawhairs will not merely raid their coasts; they will surely take them and the lands beyond. Led by the Seven foot tall and near as broad, Eirik Longaxe. He is almost as legendary as the longship he is steersman of, Hrafnen. A mighty Skei of sixty oars, Hrafnen bears the raven’s head on its prow, a powerful symbol of Odin’s favour and a reassuring presence to Hrafnen’s crew – but a terror to the villages and towns that the mere sight of Hrafnen brings. Eirik himself believes that the wrath of Odin travels with him upon his raids, a belief that holds greater the further he sails and the more treasure he plunders, for he and his crew have always returned home, bruised and battered maybe, but always with gold and silver from the monasteries and halls and villages of the weaker peoples to the west. Indeed, such is his reputation in the shieldwall and on the seas that many other longships and steersmen are drawn to his banner, greedy to take a slice of the pickings from his raids and his battles, for all know that Eirik understands the sailing of all Midgard and where to strike for plunder like no other Norseman.
I have received my 499 gold Norse Army. The army consists of Eiric Longaxe – Steersman of Hrafnen, Brynhild Gunnblindi – Gyhtja of Hrafnen and 5 Norse Trolls.
The models all arrived well packaged inside a cardboard postal box with ample bubble wrap to keep my goodies safe and sound while in transit. Once I had got all my items out for the photograph above it was apprent the they were all well packaged in blister packs for the most part. I have to say that the Laser Cut MDF tokens set is lovely!!!
The models are cast in resin to a VERY high standard of quality control as you can see from the pictures below of the unpackaged miniatures:
Here you can see my assembled Eiric Longaxe, he is a 7ft warrior and as you can see the model is bigger than a Games Workshop Space Marine!! The rest of my models are shown below assembled and ready for paint. I have washed these models in soapy water prior to assembly! (Space Marine used as the Measuring Stick so to speak):
The Invasion of the Darklands is soon to begin, SCORPIUS GLC OUT FOR NOW!!!
I really enjoy 6th edition and it would appear that things are about to get a whole lot more interesting in the world of Warhammer 40,000.
